*REflections that i wrote for my beloved GIs:
During the elevator's speech sharing, Ms Siao mentioned that " AJ will not shine without every light bulb lighted up!". This is very true as we CCA leaders are like the light bulbs of the college. We have this hevy responsibility on our shoulders to maintain and further improve our CCAs' performances during our term-of-office... and here we are the new batch of Tier 3 leaders for Year 2007/2008 participating in this ever-challenging 6days5nites AB Camp!
Not only will AB Camp consist of school stay, we will also experience a 3D2N stay @ Labrador Adventure Campsite (LAC) where i have went there twice during my secondary school years.
"Day 0" sounds ridiculous but i didn't find it as a day where we learned nothing. I will always remember the very first activity "Values Workshop" where the 7 college's values are imparted to us. It is very meaningful to understand them thoroughly and apply them in the following activities especially the Vision (setting) workshop. Afterwhich, for the first time in my life, i get to sleep in AJC's classroom :P
Day 1 started out great with all AB Campers reporting earlier than assigned time. Like the Chinese proverb goes," A good beginning means the task is half done." It's indeed a good way to start off this camp proper. There is one thing that i remember Dae 1 lots: it rained heavily when our group was doing Rock Wall. As such only Jeremy managed to climb the simple wall (the one with no slope) as a demo somemore! I was 'fortunate' enough to be his belayer and got the chance to use the harness before it rained. But is the harness reallie useful? The answer is NO! During his climb, he did slip and fell suddenly... There, i was unable to hold his weight and impact... i Flew up! The standby belayer behind me was not alert to pull me down @ that point of time and so i was lifted off the ground!!! Can you imagine that? I was reallie shocked but found it a good experience as i eventually managed to lower him safely when the falling command was given. Then it rained... One of the most irriataing thingy is for it to rain when doing rope obstacles and high elements including the all-time favourite Rock wall +)
Day 1's mangaing relationship workshop by Dr Goh was highly effective as many realistic scenarios are discussed and he never fails to suggest a perfect (or else the most appropriate) appoach to settle each case :) WOW, he is like so expert!
Day 2 @ LAC was basically almost the same activities as the previous day's eg High elements & general stations, Vision workshop and Service learning planning. I am very excited about Day 4's Servic Learning Project especially so after Ms Kym came to give an inspirational talk as to how we can handle the cilents with greater care and considerations.
The outdoor activities of Day 2 also allowed us to learn to quite a lot of things. For instance, we learnt that we must have confidence of ourselves and trust our teammates. Teamwork is the underlying value of all these activities that train our mind, body and soul :p Other learning points include:
1. Try your best in everything you do regardless of the results
2. Have a positive mindset and find alternatives to reach it
3. No man is an island
4. You have to earn your respect as well as Trust ( very appliacble to CCA leaders)
5. In life, there are many rivers to cross but always have the
